Marshall Nelson started playing in high school. In the years before forming Della Street he wrote more than 150 songs, many of which have received critical acclaim and won numerous awards. Marshall’s compositions were in two local artist compilations in Albuquerque, “Green” on 94 Rock’s Rock to Riches album and “Analogy” on Rock 108’s 1985 Superstar Talent Search album. “Reach Out” won an award in the American Song Festival competition. Prior to forming Della Street, Marshall played with Old Scratch, widely recognized as one of the finest bands ever produced in New Mexico. Many of the elements that made Scratch such a crowd pleaser were incorporated into Della Street. Most notable among these is the band’s innovative use of a “sets” structure. Extended medleys of a single artist or band. In addition to Old Scratch, Marshall was a principle in two other bands, Marshall and Friends, and Stardust (from San Antonio Texas). Both bands were extremely popular and successful. In those various bands Marshall opened for a number of nationally known acts including Nazz (Todd Rundgren), Alvin Lee, Jefferson Starship, Pure Prairie League, The Beach Boys, 3 Dog Night, Nazareth, and blues legend Etta James. A dynamic stage performer, Marshall built an immediate rapport with the audience that builds as the performance goes on. His instrumental talents and vocal diversity were the foundation that Della Street was built on. After Della, Marshall moved to California where he has done various jobs. It seems though that his musical talents can't be supressed and is now living in San Diego and has been doing a solo act again. |
